Sewerage: No works undertaken. 234 houses connected to the main sewers in 1858 and 320 in 1859. Water: A constant supply has been achieved to the lower levels of the town and an almost sufficient supply to the higher levels. Wiliam Randle supplied steam engines at Botany. Successful use of air vessels and air pumps in lieu of a stand pipe and details of amount of water able to be supplied. Contracts: John Poole for earthworks, P N Russell & Co supply of castings, water locks etc, Staggs and Honner for sea wall at Botany, Benjamin James for earthworks etc, Matthews and Jennings for sluices etc, Bishop and Spencer for pile driving etc, W Jolly & Co for timber, Thomas Hale for Bellambi Coals, HR Whittell for coals, Donohoe & Vaughan for the building of the low level reservoir, Rabone Feer & Co for iron girders, Hawkins & Gleeson for covering the arches of the low level reservoir, Allan A Marshall for 20 drinking fountains (locations listed). An ornamental fountain and basin and hydrants for cleaning erected at the George Street Markets. Details of supply to various parts of the city. Appended: return of house connections made to the sewers to 31 December 1859 listed by street; return of water mains laid during 1859 by street.
