Description
Start dateBetween 1st January 2005 and 31st December 2005Date qualifiercircaFormatSQLDescriptionBOS was the successor to Tabularium as the primary database used to manage the City of Sydney Archives from 2005 until 2018. It was a licensed stand-alone updated version of the State Records, NSW system Tabularium. BOS operated as a collection management system, enabling the control, description, and management of the archival collection according to the series system.
Records could be identified through the functions and activities they documented. Information about the content of items, and also their context (e.g. organisations, agencies, business functions, activities and people and their relationships to the records).
Tasks such as accessioning, arrangement and description, and physical tracking of content were controlled via BOS. BOS produced reports on inventories, item listings, accession registers, user guides and online listings of holdings. Has data validation for some field, does not appear to have limitation to word length in titles and other fields.
BOS was the ‘back end’ of the public access portal, Archives Investigator (version 1.2 introduced in 2000), which was jointly developed with NSW State Records. Archives Investigator provided public access through various levels (Simple key word search; Advanced Search by Function, Organisation, Activity, Agency, Person, Record Series, or Record Item; and Structured Search by Person, Function or Organisation.) Archives Investigator was the primary online public access interface to the collection of the City of Sydney Archives from 2000 (it fronted Tabularium prior to BOS) until 2018.Version 1.1 and 1.2 of Investigator were released in 2000, version 1.3 in 2004 and in 2004-2007 there was rewriting Archives Investigator in .NET. In 2007 Archives Investigator was redeveloped.
There is some overlap in this system with TRIM records created between the mid-1970’s through 1980’s. Versions of Investigator 1.0 2000|1.1 2000| 1.2 2000|2001| 2004 -2007. Vendors were PRAXA LTD

Access
Public access noteContent entered in BOS was accessed by the general public through Archives Investigator, the public access portal to the archival collection. Approved content was published to Archives Investigator which automatically made it accessible to the public either by self service (if digitised) or by submitting a request under the Government Information (Public Access) Act which the Archives team would respond to. Other content that was still being processed or described was not made public until the process was complete and approved.
Each series had different public access restrictions. No access restriction was the default, unless there was a specific Access direction or a conservation issue with hard copy records.Public access statusOpen to public access
