With a view to improving revenues, enhancing an important public building and improving a service to the inhabitants of Sydney, the Committee recommended major changes to the Markets. They recommended changes to the frontages in George, Market and York Streets by inserting shop frontages between the pillars in George and York Streets and the creation of a new main entrance in Market Street with a clock tower and belfry. The spaces between the market buildings were to be roofed over with an iron and glass roof. The interior of the buildings was to be converted to shops and open stalls. Rough estimates of costs and expected revenues were calculated. Appended: Memo Town Clerk to Alderman Moses establishing the Committee; Memo Edward Bell, City Engineer, transmitting plans for proposed alterations [plans not included].
