The Committee found that many fees for building alterations and additions had been not collected, some had been collected and paid to the Treasurer with incomplete or incorrect documentation and some appeared to have been collected and not transmitted to the Treasurer. Of the latter, Golden offered to pay certain amounts identified by the issue of receipts. The Books of Account were not kept properly and many transactions could not be verified. In addition, Golden had not performed his duty of making an annual assessment of new buildings for the purposes of taxation since December 1855 and any such buildings had not been rated. Report ordered to be printed. Appended: Statement of Amounts received by Mr Michael Golden and not credited in Book with his verbal explanation thereon.
