Committee found discrepancies in the return with buildings listed as unoccupied which the Committee believed had been occupied and for which rates were liable. Major discrepancies occurred relating to the small houses built by Mr Cooper on the New Town Road in Parramatta and Cooper's Green. The houses had frequent changes of tenants occupying them for short times and the Collector had consequently adopted a method of averaging and estimating rates relying on perusal of the Rent Collector's books. The Committee did not endorse this method and made recommendations after personal inspections of properties and examination of past records. Appended: Revised schedule of unoccupied house etc for half year ending June 1847 with pencilled annotations; Report from Edward Lord, Treasurer, on the amounts of assessment showing City and Lighting Rates and total collected; Letters from the Collector, Jno G.
