The Committee recommended that the matter be submitted to arbitration. Later notation by the Mayor, John Harris, claiming that the losses to Council from the closure of the Yards were greater than the amount of penalty. Appended: Memo from City Solicitor, Geo Merriman; Receipt from Topham Angus & Co; Memo of final settlement from Merriman attached to Letter of Receipt from Topham Angus & Co signed by Jerusalem Smyth; Letter from Topham Angus; Letter from Harris to Smith [sic]; Memo Town Clerk to Finance Committee; Memo City Surveyor, Mountain, to Town Clerk with details of payments etc; Letter from Topham Angus applying for extension of time to complete contract explaining difficulties in obtaining materials, and including a schedule of work completed or uncompleted; Memo Clerk of Works, AM Daniels, to City Surveyor reporting on the construction of the saleyards; Minute from the City Surveyor on the contract and penalties.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordNo
