A claim for compensation was submitted by the Trustees of the Underwood Estate for the land and for damages for severance of an adjacent piece of land. The Mayor directed valuations be made by Gerard Phillips and Marshall Bayley. Appended: 1. Claim for compensation submitted by solicitors Norton & Smith, 12 Spring Street, on behalf of Trustees William George Pennington, William Henry Mackenzie the Elder, Robert John King, Charles Wise Weekes and James Clegg Taylor (all signed); the claim includes a full description of the land, records that Charles Hughes has a nominal weekly tenancy and gives details of documents of title from the Crown Grant to John Fleming in 1806 to transfers or events involving James Underwood, Joseph Hyde Potts, Elizabeth Underwood, George King, WG Pennington, Richard Underwood, Thomas Underwood, WH Binsted, JC Taylor, JP Mackenzie, Riley and Wentworth. 2. Memo from City Solicitor. 3. Valuation by M Bayley, 90 Pitt Street 4.
