General City Improvements: quantities of streets repaired, difficulties in supply of road making materials, decision to complete most works by contract, actions to improve 'the Rocks' area. Sewerage/Sanitary: nuisances removed, use of dustcarts, disposal of night soil. Watering the Streets. Slaughter Houses. Proposed Alterations to Acts re Buildings, removal of night soil. City Markets: addition of stalls for sale of fruit and vegetables to the Hay Corn and Cattle Markets and changes to management of George Street Markets. City Wharfs: extensions into deep water and new jetties. Foot Pavements. Buildings: new and alterations. By Laws: Hackney Carriages, Markets, water carriers. Lighting. Books: change to double entry system. Sewerage: reports from the Chief Engineer annexed; directions given to commence a trigonometrical survey of the City; purchase of a lease of a brickfield and plant at Newtown; drainage of Durands Alley. Water: connection of steam engine at Lachlan Swamp to the Tunnel; difficulties in the supply of water during the drought; survey of the Tunnel; By Laws for water carriers and management of the Hyde Park Fountain; permanent supply and requirements for supply of water from Botany and engineer's reports. Financial: liabilities, sources of revenue, new assessments; distribution of salaries, detailed statements of revenue and expenditure. Appended: A: Expenditure of wages on account of the various works of the city itemised. B: Statement of the extent of curbing and guttering laid in various parts of the City during 1854.
