The Works Committee was responsible for supervising construction and maintenance of the streets, drainage, and cleansing
It was moved by Councillor Munro at the Meeting of Council August 3rd 1863 that “a Committee be created, to be styled a Committee of Works, whose duty it will be to see that the improvements are carried out in accordance with all resolutions passed by the Council;” The motion was carried unanimously and the first committee consist of Councillors Cullen, Conley, Bailey, Curtis, Knight and Munro.
From 1914 the Committee Minutes were often written in the back of the Council Minutes of the same year.
