Unique IDAS-1083Start date21st February 1901End date29th December 1925FormatNewscuttingDescriptionThe records in this series were forty newspaper clippings books, improvised from books of plain feint paper. The books covered the years 1901-1925, although some books were evidently missing (for example there was a gap comprising most of the period 1902-1906).

The newspaper clippings pasted into the books covered aspects of political, economic and social news about the City of Sydney, greater Sydney and NSW generally. The rule appeared to have been a connection between the subject of the news item and the interests of the City Council (perhaps, of the Town Clerk).

Each story was annotated in pencil with the name of the newspaper and the date of publication. Most of the clippings were also marked with a vertical blue pencil stripe, perhaps indicating they had been noted or marked off in some other record.

There were no known or surviving indexes to these books. They may have been compiled in the Town Clerk's department as raw material for the voluminous annual reports compiled by Thomas Huggins Nesbitt (TC 1901-1925) and printed in the annual Proceedings of Council volumes. The first book predated the start of his term by several months.
