Reported to me of a disturbance at Entrance Gate to our wharf by a licensed porter named Thos Laverty, peristing in coming onto the Wharf with luggage despite our Special Constable's instructions when passengers arriving for the 'Manapouri' departure at 4pm. Your officer, Vircoe, made no effort to control the action. I lodge a formal complaint, and Porter Laverty who has previously been warned off [our] premises for misconduct. Notes: RWR: Insp Seymour, Insp Virgoe to explain, and appear before me; Laverty has been asked to make a written report. (Report: 4 months back, all Porters prevented from working on the Union Company Wharf, Mr Jackson advised that 'you gave baggage to outside vehicles instead of our vans' meaning the Metropolitan Carrying Company, Thomas Laverty, 7 Margaret St, engaged in Margaret St and assaulted by the Special Constable whilst I was engaged carrying baggage). Joseph Vercoe to Insp of Nuisances: Lafferty engaged in Margaret St and disturbance caused by undue interference of Mr Jackson's employees.
