Deaths exceeded births by 7. He comments on the fact that the diseases seem to be more prevalent in the more salubrious parts of town, the upper part of Woolloomooloo and Darlinghurst and not in the poorer parts as may be expected. He attributes the problem to the very dry weather as drains and sewers are not being flushed, obstruction in drains emptying into poorly constructed water closets and the domestic cleanliness of backyards. He suggests that the ventilating shaft in Hyde Park have the charcoal at its base renewed frequently and returns to his theme of opening new burial grounds away from the City.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
