Isaac Aaron, Officer of Health, encloses a report on the Tank Stream. He suggests two ways of solving the problem of its continuing degradation. One, fill it up by converting it into a simple sub-soil drain, or two, clean it thoroughtly from source to exit. He feels the first is preferrable as it would be constructed to prevent a large portion of silt to be carried into the harbour. Referred to the Engineer for his report. E. Bell reports that the Tank Stream has now (1861) been covered or arched from Circular Quay to Hunter St. and the only section left open is between Hunter and half way between King and Hunter Streets.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
