On the right is the Cahill Expressway elevated roadway which is entered from the Bradfield Highway & the Sydney Harbour Bridge at the upper right and exits at Woolloomooloo. The left hand lane travels in a circle underground & exits onto the Harbour Bridge in a northerly direction. At the lower centre, buss are parked at bus stops with another bus shelter in the centre of Alfred Street. At the lower left is Grimes Control Garages, on Arbitration Street, with the 4 sloped rooflines. In the centre, opposite the bus shelter, is the Ship Inn Hotel, which opens at 6.30am. Beyond the hotel is Pitt Street leading south & on the far corner is Suttons Chambers, with the smaller sloped roofline, at 13-17 Pitt Street. To the left of Suttons Chambers is Bacons Building, on Cranes Place, with the Rugby Union & Metters signs on the wall & roofline. Behind that building is Ashwood Chambers which is at 174-176 George Street. This is also on the cnr with Blue Anchor Lane. At the centre left, leading off to the west, is Underwood Street, with Stanway House on the right hand cnr between Crane Place & Underwood Street at 33-35 Pitt Street. Further along Underwood Street is a car park behind the large white Ironworkers Building at 188-194 George Street. At the end of Alfred Street is George Street with shops along the footpath from 165-203, where the Commercial Hotel is on the cnr with Essex Street. White building behind these shops is Government Stores ( Conservation House ) at 102-106 Harrington Street. Beside it, on the right, is the Forestry Commission of NSW at 94-96 Harrington Street. At the upper left is Caltex House at 167- 187 Kent Street & to the right of that is the IBM building, under construction, at 168-170 Kent Street. In the centre, below IBM, is Bushells Ltd, with the Bushell sign on the wall, at 121-127 Harrington & to its right at no 117-119, which is also the cnr with Essex Street, is the Accountants House.LanguageEnglish (eng)Digitised recordYes
