Unique IDAS-0611Start date16th September 1864End date31st December 1948FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionThis series of ten volumes recorded the business transacted at meetings of the Darlington Municipal Council. Pursuant to a motion published in the Government Gazette, a meeting of the electors of the Municipality of Darlington was held at the John BullI Inn, Newtown Road, at noon on the 16 September 1864. According to the proclamation dated 7 August 1864 Patrick Lindsay Crawford Shepherd was to be the first Returning Officer. The first meeting of council was held at Mr Harris's Schoolroom at 7.30 pm on the 8 October 1864.

These minutes were the official records of meetings of Council, recording dates of meetings, who attended, the matters discussed, resolutions carried and defeated, and reports from various committees and sub-committees. Minutes of the Finance Committeee were included until 31 August 1927. Pages in these volumes were numbered, however there was no index to the series. The minutes were handwritten from until 31 August 1927, with some typed reports such as income and expenditure estimates and Mayoral Minutes inserted from 1916 onward.
