Newtown Minutes of Council Committees

Unique IDAS-0606Start date3rd August 1863End date31st December 1948FormatVolume - Leather BoundDescriptionVolumes 1-3 record business of Council's Works Committee. Volumes 4-5 record business of Council's Finance Committee. The volumes are not indexed.
It was moved by Councillor Munro at the Meeting of Council August 3rd 1863 that “a Committee be created, to be styled a Committee of Works, whose duty it will be to see that the improvements are carried out in accordance with all resolutions passed by the Council”. The motion was carried unanimously and the first Works Committee consisted of Councillors Cullen, Conley, Bailey, Curtis, Knight and Munro.
From 1914 the Minutes of Council Committees, except the Fininace Committee, were recorded in the back of the volumes of the Minutes of Council.

There was a special combined meeting of the Newtown Works Committee and the Marrickville Council Works Comittee in 1926, Meetings of Special Committees in 1926 and 1928, a Special Playground Committee Meeting in 1929 and a Group Assurance Scheme Committee Meeting in 1934.
