Unique IDAG-0101DescriptionThis Committee was responsible for: the selection and appointment of day labour by ballot; the investigation and provision of advice to Council on proposals for the recruitment, suspension and dismissal of staff; provision of advice on vacancies in clerical and professional staff; hearing appeals against labour suspensions; and investigation and advice to the Council on all matters affecting the duties of staff other than salaries and wages.
On 5 February 1901, Council requested the General Purposes Committee to consider the formation of a Labouring Staff Committee, to deal with any reports or complaints against any workman of the Council. On 17 April 1901, Council adopted a report of the General Purposes Committee, and the Labour Advisory Committee was formed.
The Committee consisted of the Mayor, and Vice-Chairmen of the Finance, Works, Health, Electric Lighting, and By-Laws Committees. At this time, the Committee was only to consider day labourers who worked for the Council. However, on 7 August 1901, the scope of the Committee was increased to include staff as well as day labour and the name of the Committee was changed to the Staff and Labour Advisory Committee.
From 29 January 1902 the Committee is referred to as the Staff and Labour Committee. The last minutes that refer to the Committee were on 29 October 1903. When the standing Committees were elected in 1904 there was no Staff and labour Committee mentioned.
