Unique IDAG-0188DescriptionOn 20 September 1999, Council created three new standing committees, namely: CA 186, Planning Development and Transport Committee, 1999+; CA 187, Community Services, Small Business and Tourism Committee, 1999-2004; CA 188, Cultural and City Care Committee, 1999-2004; and retained CA 142, Finance, Properties and Tenders Committee, 1995+. Also, special committees and sub-committees were reorganised and attached to respective standing committees. Apart from four Standing Committees, there were two Special Committees called Priorities and Outcomes Committee and Positioning Sydney Committee.

Under the approved new functional structure of standing committees, CA 188, Cultural and City Care Committee, 1999-2004, was assigned to deal with all matters relating to: a) cultural and city events program; b) visual arts, including the sculpture walk and the open museum; c) performing arts; d) themed weekends in the city; e) city care program including: graffiti removal, footpath and street cleaning, waste collection, trees, city aesthetic improvement program, and street and footpath maintenance; f) management and maintenance of open spaces; g) living colour program (flowers); h) street furniture program; I) financial assistance to cultural organisations; j) cultural venue management; k) city lighting program; l) history projects; and m) film industry.

Committees and Sub-Committees serve only as advisory to Council and have no independent role, except where specific authorities are delegated to them by Council.

On 13 September 2004, Council decided to reorganise the standing committees and the functions of this Committee were assigned to either CA 241 Cultural and Community Services Committee 2004 + or CA 228 Environment and Heritage Committee 2004+ (known as CA 228 Environment Committee from 2012).CreationResolution of Council 20 September 1999AbolitionResolution of Council 13 September 2004
