Unique IDAG-0126DescriptionThis Committee was appointed to carry "into effect the Sanitary clauses of the [Sydney Corporation Act 1850] and all matters connected with the Sanitary conditions of the City". In its first report to Council on 8 October 1851 the Board complained that it had no funds at its disposal and had to refer proposals to the Improvement Committee, reducing it in fact to a "mere Sub-Committee of the Improvement Committee".
The Board of Health was appointed a standing committee on 10 November 1851 for the year ending 31 October 1852, but it was not re-appointed after this date. It appears that its functions were taken over by CA 119, Improvement Committee.
There are no extant minutes of the Board but its reports to Council are contained in CRS 21. The Committee presented three reports to Council, the subjects it dealt with were sewerage and drainage of the streets as they related to public health, inspection of slaughter houses and butchers shops, outbreaks of disease, and investigation of nuisances.CreationResolution of Council 8 January 1851AbolitionResolution of Council 6 December 1852
