Unique IDAG-0062DescriptionIn 1868 Alexandria was formed from part of the area incorporated by the Waterloo Municipal Council. A map of the municipality, dating from the 1880s, is attached. It shows the municipal boundaries and the Ward divisions.
This agency has been created by the City of Sydney Archives to cover all the corporate and administrative offices of the Alexandria Municipal Council. Apart from the corporation (the group of Alderman headed by the Mayor) the suburban municipalities surrounding the City of Sydney usually employed only a Town Clerk and a handful of other administrative staff.
From 1 January 1949, Alexandria was absorbed by Sydney City Council.CreationNSW Gazette, 31 August 1868AbolitionLocal Government (Areas) Act 1948
