South Sydney City Council Health and Community Services Department

Unique IDAG-0034DescriptionThe Health and Community Services Department of South Sydney City Council was established by the City of Sydney Act 1988. The Act was proclaimed on 2 December 1988 to take effect from 1 January 1989.

The Act split the former Sydney City Council into two Councils - Sydney City Council and South Sydney City Council. Health and Community Services Departments were established for both Councils. Under a cross-servicing agreement South Sydney City Council provided meals on a contract basis to the Sydney City Council's activity centres. These arrangements were terminated in 1993.

The department is divided into three branches which are responsible for the following functions:

Administration: budget management, granting applications.

Health Services: health surveys, environmental health, pest control and health education.

Community Services: children's services, community support, aged services, meals on wheels and recreation services.
