Unique IDOR-0005DescriptionThe Municipality of Paddington was incorporated in 1860. The boundaries were (more or less) from Rushcutters Creek and New South Head Rd (NW/N) to the north side of Moore Park Rd (S), and from Ocean Rd and [Jersey] Rd (E) to [South] Dowling St (W). The S and E boundaries of Paddington Municipality are convoluted and reference should be made to a contemporary map (such as Higginbotham & Robinson C1886). Paddington was divided into Lower, Middle, Upper and Glenmore Wards. From 1 January 1949, Paddington Municipal Council was abolished, and the area became part of the City of Sydney. Woollahra Municipal Council (1860+) took over responsibility for Paddington (north of Oxford St) from the City of Sydney in 1968. The portion south of Oxford St remained part of the City of Sydney until 1989 when it became part of the City of South Sydney.CreationNSW Gazette, 20 April 1860AbolitionLocal Government (Areas) Act, 1948
