Weeks have passed since the dangers of the Moore Park tip were pointed out. Deaths from Plague have been caused by that tip, yet practically nothing has been done to reduce the risks in connection with it. The fact that no overpowering smell comes from the tip is no guarantee that it. is safe — the assurance, of the muddling Council notwithstanding. [ref: Sunday Times 1 April 1900 p4]

Dirty Sydney … Any attempt to enforce the powers vested in them to secure cleanliness would have been inconsistent with their maintenance of the Moore Park rubbish tip. Suspension of Stacey – newspaper report: THE PLAGUE- AN OFFICER SUSPENDED - The question was asked at the City Council meeting yesterday by Alderman Waterhouse whether there was any truth in the statement made in the press that when the Premier visited Moore Park tip he discovered rag-pickers at work there, and taking rags away. The Mayor: I believe there was some truth in the statement. I have suspended the gentleman who was in charge of the tip on that day. [ref: Evening News 31 May 1900 p6]
